I have switched to  WIN XP PRO.  :)

Personally SO FAR, i am AMAZED at this OS.   Although I have to look all over to find stuff compared to Win ME, I'm loving the change.  The SPEED of my APPS are kewl.  My UT opens VERY FAST now.. .click and BAM!  UT is open and Ready to rock.   :flak:

My default network settings are nice too. I went out to www.dslreports.com and recieved a 3.4mb down and 296kb up. WOW!  didn't have to tweak or anything...   :)

I had 2 tiny issues at the very beginning but have not seen any problem since.

TIMEWISE.. The install took some time. But it was worth it. Everything went in easy..

One regret:  I installed with FAT32...and now I'm thinking I should have installed with NTFS.  :(

Use the "Convert" command.  You will have to run it from the Command Prompt, but that should do the trick.  And because I am such a nice guy, here is a link that will tell you how to do it!

If you don't have a lot of data yet, it would be better to format NTFS and re-install, than to convert.

Actually, there isn't a gain reformating vs converting, other than converting saves you time and effort.

i read somewhere that there is a possibility of corrupting files..... that's why i was going to do a full reload...

I would rather do a clean reload...It may take more time....but it's the clean fresh feeling I get in my head from knowing I have a fresh install.

It makes me feel like I am tip toeing through the sun flower filled valley of Capurnus, Italy in the Spring. Fresh, cool weather.  :)  ooooooooooh!

I'm going home RIGHT NOW and do a fresh install......:) :) :)

I read that there was a performance hit with converting vs reformating, I just don't remember why or where I read it.

The convert is done with a reboot, so the only performance hit would be that your system is essentially down while you convert.  But then you can do it just before you go to bed, and it will be done when you get up.

I did the convert last night. It probably took a whole 5 minutes, maybe.   It was very fast. I haven't had any game issues. Everything seems to be working fine and stable.

I didn't notice that if I install something and the program doesn't reboot automatically, i have to do it manually. Or the program errors. But once I reboot the program is fine.. and doesn't have the problem again.. :)

I'm a happy man.  Haven't lost frame rates in UT.. WOO HOO! :)

You may actually find that the system will run faster without an increase in framerates, as the disk subsystem is faster with NTFS than with FAT.  Just a better format for storage.

I would load everthing on fat 32 and then convert. I tried ntfs the first time ut, sof2, and others would crash on start up. Load them on fat 32 and then converted they run fine You can look in the "help" under nfst or convert to see how to do it.
Has Anyone had this same problem?

I didn't have any problems.  I did a clean install with ntfs.  I did read somewhere (don't remember where) that it is better to go ntfs initially than to convert.  Don't remember why either, just remember reading it.

Morpheus is saying that because he did a fresh install to NTFS.. and me and boom did a convert... He doesn't know why installing freshly to NTFS is better because... IT ISN"T!  :)

Actually is is better, but only because the allocation unit size by default is smaller in FAT, and when you convert to NTFS, you are stuck with that same setting.  When you format the system in NTFS, you get to set the size of your allocation unit.

Here is an article that explains the allocation unit for you: http://www.firmware.com/support/bios/cluster.htm

Here is one on FAT32 itself:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q310525&

The limitations of FAT32: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q184006

Here is one on the differences: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q140365

When I did NTFS on a fresh install I couldn't get my games to run. they would open up and shut right down. So I did fat 32 and had no problem. Converted and every thing seams fine.
