What: A LAN...  duh

Where: Western Iowa Tech Community College Campus

When: January 17th

Games: There will be tournaments in Battlefield 1942, Halo, Call of Duty, and Enemy Territory.

Details: It's still early in the planning, but we have Nvidia, Gateway, Microsoft, and Bawls on board so far.  Other sponsors are in the works.

Tournaments and Prizes are not set in stone yet, but we're working on some very VERY nice prizes.

We're still working on details.  I will post more info as it becomes available.

Sorry gang.  There won't be any UT in tournament play.  If someone wants to fire up a pub server, that's fine.

We opted to go with the top games off of TWL, although I'm not sure what's up with HALO.  I've only played it once, not sure if I liked it.  BF is fun, CoD is definitely fun, and ET is a blast and a half.

I hate to say it, but UT2k3 just isn't nearly the game that the original UT was.

I agree with the ut2k3 comment.  I'm really hoping that 2004 brings a lot more of the old attraction back.  I still play UT (origional) every day.

For me, timing is an issue.  I can only get so many kitchen passes, and everybody and their freaking brother, including us, has an event in the first 3 months of the year.

Kitchen pass or not, here's what's in store:

ATI has come through. They are giving 6 9800 XT's for the Call of Duty Tournament winners, and 6 9600 XT's for the Wolfenstein ET tournament winners.

We are just waiting for the final announcement for the battlefield 1942 tournament winners (Nvidia).

well this is our first event and we have no clue how many people will show up because sioux city has not done anything like this.  And lets just say we have some friends in good places :)

We need to draw some people from out of town for this to work and the best way is good prizes.  Hopefully this will entice some people to sign up and drive up and do some fraggin

The Slam event actually had about 40 people two years ago.

As for the prizes...  fringe benefits of working in the industry I guess.  People who used to work here, now work for some of our vendors.  It's a buddy network thing.   I'm anxious to see what Nvida will volley with.  :)

Well I know I won't get a kitchen pass to this event, cause I used my Jan pass for the network and I had to promise that the next one would be the March Lan-Bush in March.  I will make a concerted effort to make the next one.

To be honest, the first 3 months of the year are the worst because EVERYBODY wants to have a LAN party.  But then the laste few are also because nobody wants to GO to a party.

Well, we finally have our hardware for the LAN.  Allow me to brag (and probably pull my hair out on saturday)

The Server
1x Gateway 4-Way 995 Server with the latest and Greatest Xeon Processors (due to NDA, I cannot disclose what they are but you can imagine...)
6 gig of RAM
65gig RAID-5 SCSI Array
3x Intel Gig NIC's

OS: Windows 2003 Enterprise Server

Games:
The three NICs have been assigned 6 IP's each.  Each game will have it's own NIC, and 6 IP's.  I've got them configured now for 4 match servers and two pub servers per game.

The LAN
1x Extreme 7i Switch with 24 GIG Ports with fiber on board

5x Extreme 48 port 10/100 Switches with Fiber Gig uplinks

That's all I can brag about I guess.

Oh, and please pray for me on Saturday...  I think I'm going to need it...  even though I'm not a game admin, I'm sure I'll be up to my neck in just about every problem that can spring up...  lol

You don't hear me compaining! :)  We are spoiled I won't deny that.  I am learning a lot about setting this monster up.

Each NIC has been assigned 8 IP Addresses.  Each Game is assigned to one NIC via command line IP Address configs.  We're going to try to run the whole show (game wise) from this one system.  So basically there will be 16 servers running at any given time for people to compete on, or pub/practice on when they're not in a match.  It's quite a site, luckily I have some smart fellers here showing me a few of the ropes on this IP stuff.  It's not hard, I've just never done it.  It sure does make multiple servers a breeze.  Wow!

I will try to get some good pics of everything.  And post the results as to performace status running this much stuff on one box.  It should be interesting.  lol
