I recently moved to 2 monitors, I love it, I don't think I could justify more than 3 monitors though.  At least not for personal use.

how do u do that? windows 98 says that u just have to insert another vid card but when i do my computer wont boot up until i take it out.

You do have to have 2 monitors, but the vid cards have to be compatible.  I also know that it is MUCH easier with NT, 2000, and XP.  I have done 2 monitors, and it is possible to have up to either 16 or 32.  I don't remember off the top of my head.

i know i have 2 monitors.i dont have a agp slot so i have to use 2 pci video cards.
does this make a difference?

Yuck Yuck Yuck.....some day I'll get RK and get rid of one of those sets

Actually I mostly use the dual monitor setup when I code, I have the form or report the I'm coding for in one monitor and the code in the other...it has saved me enough time to cost justify the purchase of several monitors....I just wish I had done this a year ago.

I don't know, never done it...I use my GeForce 4 TI4200, it has a DVI and a 15 pin VGA so it natively supports dual monitors.

My suggestion is to search google.

You should be able to use 2 PCI cards, just remember to set the initial card to PCI in your BIOS.

Most BIOS these days have an entry for Primary VGA card.  It can be set to either PCI or AGP.  Most likely it is set to AGP.  Make sure that it is set to PCI.

my main card is a ati turbo 2mb,and i have two different trident cards i have tried, also only 2mb, but i tried switching them but no matter what my comp wont POST until i take the second one out.

I installed these after the 3.5 drivers look alot better lots of wows! fps in ut 2003 went up 10-20 fps 1600 x 1200 highest on all settings

WE NOTE THERE appears to be something rotten in the state of Denmark where Nvidia has just started shipping its Geforce FX 5900 Ultra cards.
In an extremely long thread, some people that bought EVGA Geforce FX 5900 Ultra appear to have some problems with the cards. The title topic is "5900+Ultra+issues ".

NVIDIA-based Graphics Cards Will Have a Bug in Half-Life 2?

FSAA Cannot Be Enabled

The highly-anticipated Half-Life 2 game will have a major bug with current DirectX 9.0 hardware resulting in impossibility in enabling Full-Scene Anti-Aliasing, a popular feature that dramatically improves image quality in games. Apparently, there is a limitation in DirectX 9.0 and/or DirectX 9.0-compliant hardware that will not allow the function to be enabled on certain graphics cards if the workaround is not found.

According a Valve officials quoted in forums at HalfLife2.net web-site, there are problems with the way that current hardware implements FSAA. If you enable it, you will see a lot of artifacts on polygon boundaries due to the way that current graphics processors sample texture subjects with FSAA enabled.

Valve continued that this is a problem for any application that packs small textures into larger textures. The small textures will bleed into each other if you have multi-sample FSAA enabled.

Currently both leading graphics chips designers use multi-sampling or hybrid multi-sampling + super-sampling methods to for FSAA.

The developers of the legendary Half-Life game said that drivers are not likely to solve the problem, however, it still can be solved for graphics cards based on VPUs from ATI Technologies, such as RADEON 9500-, 9600-, 9700- and 9800-series. As for NVIDIA GeForce and GeForce FX-series, there are practically no chances to find a workaround, according to Valve.

Some industry sources indicated that the problem with such FSAA is a known one and is to be addressed in DirectX 9.1 and next-generation graphics processors with Pixel Shaders 3.0 and Vertex Shaders 3.0, such as ATI Technologies’s code-named R420 and NVIDIA’s code-named NV40 VPUs and derivatives. Both next-generation products will come later than the Half-Life 2 that is expected to be available by October.

You'll see my own numbers tomorrow night at midnight, but we've been given the go ahead to reveal a bit of information about Half-Life 2. I'll keep it brief and to the point and will explain it in greater detail tomorrow night:

- Valve is pissed at all of the benchmarking "optimizations" they've seen in the hardware community;
- Half-Life 2 has a special NV3x codepath that was necessary to make NVIDIA's architecture perform reasonably under the game;
- Valve recommends running geforce fx 5200 and 5600 cards in dx8 mode in order to get playable frame rates.
- even with the special NV3x codepath, ATI is the clear performance leader under Half-Life 2 with the Radeon 9800 Pro hitting around 60 fps at 10x7. The 5900 ultra is noticeably slower with the special codepath and is horrendously slower under the default dx9 codepath;
- the Radeon 9600 Pro performs very well - it is a good competitor of the 5900 ultra;
- ATI didn't need these special optimizations to perform well and Valve insists that they have not optimized the game specifically for any vendor.

There you have it folks, there's much more coming tomorrow.
