Heck, it puts it in the dirt, stomps on it, digs a hole, throws it in, and then buries it.

One good thing I can say about the Perhelia, at least potentially.  It has gotten some excitement out there for 3 monitor setups, maybe, just maybe nVidia will take note and the next release will support 3 monitors at lightning speeds.  Or maybe ATI, I still like my Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO card.  It would be a nice coup if ATI took the gauntlet.

As far as I'm concerned the Nvidia 4600 holds the THe heavy weight Champion's Belt......

Too rich for my blood.  I was looking at the GF 3 TI 500.  I want to build a secondary gaming rig.  Do you think a PII 300 would be fast enough with a good Graphics Card?

Nope!  back when I wrote this review I also watched the performance of the box when I went from P2-450/Voodoo 3000 to P2-450/GF2MX to TB1G/GF2MX.  One thing I saw was that the card made a big difference, but not enough.  Then I switched to the new MB and proc.  That jumped the stats in a big way!

Even though the GPU is a major part of the frames, you have to be able to get the data to the GPU fast enough.  That means that you have to have a faster CPU as well.

what about overclocking, can the PII be overclocked enough to take up the slack?

I would say 'no' ... you won't be able to get enough out of the 300.

Can you play UT on it with a new card????  YES!

I can help tweak it to be able to run as good as it can...BUT it will not run as good as the P2 450 Zwarrior was referencing.....

I ran my PII 300 overclocked to 434mhz (3.5x124mhz fsb) for almost two years with no major problems.  I do recommend major amounts of cooling and upping the core voltage by at .3v +/- .1v .  It would lock up about every 6 weeks.  I finally figured it out to be the amount of dust on the motherboard causing the controllers to overheat.  After that I started doing monthly PMIs on it.   :crash:

As long as you want to upgrade the DirectX and all the other drivers.  Not to mention shelling out the major BUCK!

Well, ask a simple question and get a complex answer.

There are actually LOTS of factors, not just processor speed and memory and graphics card.

System tweeks and settings can have huge impacts, so if you are tweeked and your friend is not then you get better fps.

The more bots there are isn't so much a graphics issue as a cpu issue (the AI is controlled by the cpu) it may be that the dual cpu's can handle that better.

The other question is which ATI Radeon graphics card? If it's a Radeon 7500 or even an 8500 it benchmarks about the same as your GeForce 440mx.

Check out Tom's hardware VGA charts for a comparison of graphics cards and how they scale with different CPU's.

They other thing to keep in mind is that a system runs only as fast as it's slowest component, if there is a bottleneck the system as a whole will slow down.  So it is important to keep your system balanced for it to perform at optimal levels.

Most of us have either found the graphics on the web or used a graphics package to create them.

Once you find a graphic, just let me know, and we can get it setup for you.
