"Microsoft announced that it will disable its Windows Messenger service and activate the Internet Connection Firewall in the Windows XP Service Pack 2 upgrade due in the first half of 2004. "Microsoft is committed to making Windows more secure," says Amy Carroll, director of product management for Microsoft's Security Business Unit."

Time to start using Team Speak.

however...we should still be able to connect by IP address...shouldn't we.. and the internet firewall ..we can disable.

They are disabling the Windows Messenger, not the Instant Messenger.

Windows messenger is the pop windows from the network that we used to use to annoy users. Things like "The server is going down in 30seconds, logoff NOW!"

Instand messenger is the application you login to and send annoying messages to your friends like "Dude, you gonna join this game or WHAT?"

Must have scared myself out of it too. I just plain forgot what day it was. That just proves that working out of your house has some drawbacks. For example, every day is Ground Hog day.
