overclocking the x850XT
« on: May 29, 2005, 07:13:48 PM »
After trying for months to push my x850xt (pci-e) I finally reached it's max (I think).

First stock gives me 520 core and 540 mem.

I used atitool 0.0.23 to overclock.

stock gave me around 353 fps with it's built in demo.

Overclocked gave me 585 core and 615 mem. (any higher would cause artifacts. even at these settings I can only play for a few hours before the card gets to hot and crashes)

Overclocked gave me 397 fps.

thats an 11% bump in fps (beating out the x850xtpe which was around $100 more when I got my card).

nothing like tryint to kill a $500 card :lol

after having 3 nvidia cards die on me I'm not touching them again. I've only had one ati card died on me and I fear I caused it by overclocking to high (and I've only had 3 nvidia cards. I'v had somewere around 6 ati cards). even my old 3dfx cards are still running strong (never had a 3dfx die on me).

Who manufactured the cards though
No matter how hard you try to push the envelope, remember it's only stationary.

Did your video card happen to use the ATI Catalyst?

If so, you could use that to overclock your video card.

I sometimes have mine slightly overclocked when gaming using this software.

That might be why you should try BFGtech
