I know that in SP2 the firewall is automatically activated but that's about it for me.

The difference is that the one you linked is the full copy.

You download that and it will not need to go back out to the web to get the components when it installs.

The other, smaller version, is much like the DX9 thread I posted last month.  It's just a quick download that will go back out and download all the components when you run it.

I of course, will be downloading the full version. ;)

Just installed sp2 on two computers
If you have an old esafe free version uninstall it first. It will give you problems and it will not uninstall by itself after you update.

Glad you mentioned that.  Mrs. ZW's PC has eSafe.

I just installed SP2 last night.  First thing I did was disable the firewall they turned on.  I have one and it is doing a great job already thanks!

Then I turned on Automatic Update and used the new setting "Notify me but don't automatically download or install".  Finally a mode I will use besides "Disabled"!

then you should still be able to use it.  I am running 4.7.3 which is the same version that was installed prior to the patch.

I am leaving shortly for home, and will test mine when I get home.

OK, here's the scoop.  Apparently SP2 included an upgrade to Windows Messenger 4.7.3.

The last version of Messenger that GV understands is 4.7.2.

I reinstalled that version, and now GV is working again.  Amazing since GV is supported software until  9-30-2006
 ( http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[ln];lifeconhdmu )
and so you will need to to run the older version which you can get here/

Hope thats helps!

That is because there are ports that need to be opened to RECEIVE packets for these games.

Unfortunately, this is because MS went and turned on the firewall and doesn't allow for the need to open additional ports.  I understand the reason it is not working, and I am not too upset, they are erring on the side of security.

BUT there are some apps that are failing not because of the firewall, but because they are not doing their support like they say they will.

I haven't got SP2 yet, and now I am scared to get it! I was hearing some bad things but now what your say is making my decision easier.

"IF" you are already running a personal firewall on your system, i.e. ZoneAlarm; e-Trust; etc, then you will only need to disable the Windows Firewall.  otherwise, learn to work with that before you start installing SP2.

Anything good that SP2 has to offer?
I mean any good reason to download and install?

it patches a lot of holes, and they added an additional option to Automatic Updates..."Monitor and notify me"

Ok, The Holes sound Good, but I already had the option to notify of new update and don't D/L them.

Alright after two day on a test system with a bootleg copy the os will not issue an IP for the computer or access the internet. Did a system restore before SP2 and now I got an IP and internet access.
If you use a bootleg copy beware but if I were you I'd go get a legal copy.
