My ati radeon 9800xt died! I am rmaing it through newegg and hope to get a replacement/refund. Only one problem. I replaced the original thermal paste with arctic silver a while back(which droped the gpu core temp by 2c) so I don't know if they'll accept it. Hopefully they will not check.:cry:

I am truly saddened to hear about the vid card. I agree, it was truly a young card.. :;(:

I just spoke with someone last night that had their vid card die yesterday as well.

Hopefully it isn't a big conspiracy and these manufacturers are remotely making our graphics cards die. I heard they have a surplus of parts they need to get rid of, so they take your card back and put old parts on them and send them back as 'NEW'.   :;(:

Actually, if they took an old card and put new parts on it, then tried to sell it as new they would be breaking the law.  That is why you see great prices on expensive items, and in very small print it says "refurbished".

This card was new. Although I did get it for a great price... $370 shipped (I love newegg). I think I'm going to buy a spare geforce4 ti 4200 for backup in case another card dies. If newegg refuses to replace the card I'll just buy a 9800 pro(from newegg). $200 less than an xt and roughly 98% of the performance.

btw
wtf is lexdisic? :lol:

I got a refund! YAY! :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

I think I'll save that $375 for a next gen card(ati).

I'll always shop newegg.

na. I'm going to snag a x800 when I can. just need to save $200 more and I'll have the $500 for it (when it comes out). As you can tell I like ati.

BTW
On the same topic I got a R9800pro for my system(can't see spending $100 more for 2% more speed) until I get a good card :lol
I also bought a r9600xt for my mothers computer. I hear they are real good cards.

ok I got the cards in. The 9800pro is just as fast as the 9800xt(in real world use). Although it's possible the 9800xt was damaged in some way making it slower.

The 9600xt is surprisinly fast. Runs ut2k3 just fine at 1024X768x32. best $170 I have ever spent I think. I may have to pick one up as a backup card in case my 9800pro dies. I'd hate to think how bfv would kill it though.
