Just put together and AMD64
« on: October 16, 2003, 10:02:05 PM »
Yesterday I built an AMD 64 machine for my friend...and let me tell you...DAMN.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
ASUS K8V Deluxe mobo
Corsair 512 MB PC3200
Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB
Maxtor 80GB 7200rpm
Samsung 52x32x52x
Powersupply & case
Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse
Speakers

Total: $1300-includes shipping

Definately a budget system. My friend wanted a AMD 64, and figured on probably upgrading the video card later.

This thing is smokin- and stable as hell. I didn't have ONE problem at all during the process of putting it together.

one question...why does you Mom need a 9700 pro?

Just curious.

When I was looking at the video cards... for the money it was better to get that than suffer and get a lower card that wasn't as good and wouldn't hold up for a while... the 9500 Pro has good marks.. it beats out the 9600 card that came out. So i decided to put a little more money into the vid card and get a 9700 pro for her.

Maybe I'm looking at this from the wrong perspective.  If you are building a computer for someone who will never even come close to running really graphics intensive programs like Auto-CAD or games, why spend the money on a high end card?  The kind of system you built is a gamers system.   Does she play UT?  I would have saved the cash and upgraded the processor another level or two.

I"m going to be teaching her first how to use a pc...then slowly work her into Duke Nukem ...and then eventually UT, BF1942.. Wanted to make sure the machine can play the games..  Plus she wanted to make sure if I ever needed an extra machine for someone to borrow..it is available....:D

Heh, I am just imagining your mom playing Duke Nukem 3D and you haven't turned on the PG filter...
