hard drive upgrade.

I want to upgrade my hard drive now and wonder which is the best to get. I want to stay around $100.

Some things that the drive must have at a minimum...

1. ata100
2. 8mb cache
3. 7200 rpm
4. 100gb storage
4. No ibm drives

I was looking at the WD1200JB from western digital. It fits everything listed but I wonder if their is a better choice. If I can't find a better drive I am thinking of going scsi. I have 2 servers running scsi and both are fast given the age of the drives (can only imagin a new setup).

w/d has a 10,000 rpm drive out 36 gig I believe.

I, personnally, prefer the Western Digital products.  They have proven to be some of the best, most stable drives I have worked with over the years.  This is personal preference, but still.  I have been using WD exclusively for more than 7 years, and have had, with 1 exception, all of 2 go out.  I am including the drives I installed as a tech in the field as well.

The one exception was  the time that WD made a bad run of 210MB drives.  We literally had a bad case, and they replaced it with 2 cases for our troubles.

I still have 100MB drives that run.

If I had to goto SCSI, I would be looking torward Seagate drives, but I am not sure who makes those now.

Most other IDE manufacturers make drives that either fail, or sound like they are going to.  My personal feeling is that a drive should NOT be louder than the fans in the system, or rattle like it's a jeep on a mountain road.

I really am leaning tward western digital. Although I still want to give samsung drives a look as they seem to be just as good.
