Okay, that was weird.

I saw a leadtech 7800gtx 512Mb on Newegg.com on the auto notify for about 500, but it looks like they took it off for some reason.

I am beginning my upgrade investigation and will be posting the planned hardware for those that are interested.  I plan to begin ordering in the next couple of weeks.  Next month should be a key month for lots of good advancements to arrive.  L8r

Woot!!
A 2fer.  Spade posts, and he is gonna update us on his research.  I love Spade's upgrades research.  Never has there been a more thorough look into the options that are out there than when he does it.

My next upgrade is only partially a computer upgrade.  I might haul it out to a LAN Party, we'll see.

It might not perorm as well as you might think.  HDTV resolution is a lot less than even the cheapest CRT.

standard tv is like 480 x 620 to 800 x 600
HDTV runs  like 1024 x 768  and goes up. standard HD is like 2048 x something.....

HDTV is 1024x768 and when spread out across 37 inches will look extremely blocky.  The HDTV resolution does not go up either.  It's resolution in monitor terms is equivalent to XGA.

It might be kind of blocky when you are 6" away, but from 3'-6' away it looks pretty sweet.  And this is even MY computer we're talking about.  It would probably look a little better on a faster machine.  I just think it is cool to see 2' tall bad guys.

Also I had already played when I posted last.  It was not a hope or wish...I was making a statement of fact.

I guess I should have mentioned that the wide screen version of xga resolution on a 32 inch is 1366 x 768 pixels.  It's a little less on a 30" at 1280 x 720.  Now some manufacturers have better compression technology and some even use two compression methods to make small text more readable, but the native resolution (best performance) is going to come at the 1366 x 768 resolution.  If you run that display at higher resolutions you will have a harder time reading smaller text or working on low resolution images because the compression Lagos will distort the images.

I might have to wait for this. DDRIII is to double your bandwidth

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=32360

DDR-III will require new motherboards

Computex 2006 New everything in 2007

By Theo Valich: Monday 12 June 2006, 18:32

IT SEEMS THAT both Intel and AMD will target enthusiast users with gaming CPUs that will support DDR-III memory.
A second territory where DDR-III will take off as a standard is the world of FB-DIMM memory, where the main performance impact and power savings will come with the 1.5V, 1.06GHz working memory.

The best thing is: both DDR-II and DDR-III are set to be installed in 240-pin DIMMs.

Sadly, on the back of Vista, of course, 2007 will bring only one thing: new motherboards, new CPUs, new memory. And new case fans, speakers and screen too, why not?

With luck, a user that buys a DDR-III memory-equipped PC won't have to change the motherboard until 2009. µ

OK, I have not forgotten about you all, I am just dragging my feet a bit, I bought a cannon D-30 SLR Digital camera with all the accessories last month so I was distracted for a bit on the camera research but am back on the computer track now.  I am catching up since the last research ended with the a7n8x deluxe and 2800 era.  Hope to start posting soon as I see Boom in on the search.......:hotbouns:
