Just upgraded to an AMD XP 2100+, and DDR 333.  Here are my new stats:

PC Mark

CPU       5060
Memory 3219
HD         773

3D Mark 10230

Not quite the changes I really expected.  I thought there be be an increase of about 3%.  I'm going to have to double check all my connections and jumpers.

Interesting to say the least, I will post my results before and after XP, I think from what I am seeing that my machine should be in the 10,000 range and right now I am around 8700.  More to come.

must read:

"3DMark03 combines custom artwork with a custom rendering engine that creates a set of demo scenes that, while pretty, have very little to do with actual games. It is much better termed a demo than a benchmark. The examples included in this report illustrate that 3DMark03 does not represent games, can never be used as a stand-in for games, and should not be used as a gamers’ benchmark."

Careful, ATI isn't THAT much better than nVidia.  The battle rages, and the victor is not clear yet.

I love a competitive market, it means that we the consumer win the most!:D

At this point the casual eye, and even the not so casual eye cannot tell the difference in quality.  Only when you freeze the screen and spend 5 minutes analyzing it do you notice issues.

I've had an ATI 7200 64mb DDR VIVO card, and a gForce 4 TI4200.  The only difference I have noticed is my machine doesn't crash nearly as often with the nVidia card as it did with the ATI.  In fact i don't think I've had a crash as a result of video since I upgraded.  Oh and of course I noticed faster frame rates, but that's expected.

At this point in the game the winner is the consumer.  The company who can produce the best graphics for the least amount of money will gain market share until the competition brings out something better and cheaper.  Both companies are viable (have strong financials), and will be able to stand strong.  The fact that ATI has been able to be on "top" and may continue to for the forseable future is a great thing.  I would expect nVidia to invest in inovation and R&D and to come out on top hopefully in a year or two.  That will provide consumers with the best pricing, furthers technology, and improves the economy.

The bottom line is without nVidia, ATI wouldn't be as strong, and without ATI nVidia wouldn't be as strong.  Neither is "better" in and of itself.
