The last too drivers that Omega Has put out are very buggy. They have popups and popdowns. Now you see it now you don't. very bad in Far cry and RO http://redorchestramod.gameservers.net/ . I went back to the ATI drivers and they work great. Sorry Omega  their was a time when you were top dog.

In COD, when i use the basic rifle, the rifle has weird annomolies. The rifle starts to shake and I can't hit anything. I am thinking of switching my drivers as well.

I saw that the other day on CoD.  But only the once, and never before or since.

It could be a function of the map and where you are in it.

Yep, I've ran in that one too, but it seemed to be caused by me trying to get in the prone position in a spot where there wasn't enough room.

I was kneeling at the time, and there was an enemy player coming at me.  It was on Pavlov.

The Omega drivers did a good job for me in COD. The shaking comes from fear and wetting your pants as I draw down on you.  :ak47:

I updated my drivers to the latest ATI drivers and I am still having the anomaly. It is when I click the alt-fire button to look down my sight. I shoot, and the process of me pulling my gun back and reloading and going back into the alt-fire stance is when it is happening. It doesn't happen any other way. Just in the alt-fire(line of sight) reloading process.  hmmmm?

Any ideas?

I have actually started noticing a lot of graphics issues in CoD lately.  Last night I saw the rifle jiggle thing, and then several times I would die and would have the screen be corrupted at the bottom left.  Sometimes it would even hall of mirrors me when I died.   haven't seen this until recently.

I wonder if this isn't because of some files that modded the game recently?

Not to change the subject But I found this.

Sometimes you need to run the DOS-style command prompt … for instance, when you want to use some of the stripped-down commands that XP includes. For a full use-with-care listing, create a shortcut.

Right-click any spare area of your desktop, select New/Shortcut and, when you’re invited to … enter the location of the item … type this (all on one line):

%windir%\hh.exe ms-its:c:\Windows\Help\ntcmds.chm::/ntcmds.htm

Name the shortcut Command Listing, or whatever you like.

That will give you a help file … complete with a yellow ? … containing all the command-line commands in XP, and boy, are there a lot of them.

In Windows 98/ME it’s possible to change the size and appearance of the DOS box by using the command icons along the top of the window. In XP, you get a lot more control.

Open the Command Prompt window … it’s no longer called the MS-DOS Prompt box … in the usual way by clicking Start/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt … or by typing “command” (no quotes) in the Start/Run box.

Now, when the window opens, click on the tiny icon in its top left corner (it looks like c:\ on black) nicely hidden isn’t it? From the dropdown menu, go to Properties, and you’ll see a load of changeable settings, including the colour of the background and the text, the font used, and more.

These changes will improve performance a little:
Go to the Options tab. Under the Command History, change the Buffer Size to 999 (this enables scrolling through the window) and Number of Buffers to 5 (this increases the number of lines you can have in the Command Prompt window to 5,000).

Under Edit Options, tick the Quick Edit Mode and Insert Mode checkboxes if not already ticked; that enables copy and past to and from the Command Prompt window. To copy something from the window (you just done a “ping” and you want to show the world), select the text by clicking the left mouse button and dragging to highlight the text and then right-click. The highlight will disappear, but don’t worry you really have copied that text. To paste inside the Command Prompt window, just right-click.

Outside the Command Prompt window the normal procedures apply … right-click and select Copy or Paste as appropriate.WARNING: If you don’t know what your doing in the Command Prompt window … type “exit” (no quotes), this will close the window.

You want to free up as much of your memory as possible for gaming? I will show you how to VERY quickly turn off all the services you don't need for gaming. For detailed information on all of the services you will want to go here.

First browse to your C drive in windows explorer. Right click and select new text document.
Name it netstop.txt
After this rename it to netstop.bat
After this right click the file and select edit

Now we'll need to figure out what services we need to stop.

Hit Start --> Run --> Type: services.msc

Have it sort by status to show you what is currently running. You'll want to take a look at what's running and then reference blackvipers site to figure out what it means. He has on the second from the right a gaming rig profile. If it's disabled for his gaming rig profile then it should be fine to stop this service.

Now go back to your open window of netstop.bat

Every service you want to stop should be on its own line. I'll provide you with an example of what I'm choosing to stop. Yours will vary so please don't just copy and paste this into yours.

NET STOP "Automatic Updates"
NET STOP "Computer Browser"
NET STOP "Cryptographic Services"
NET STOP "Diskeeper"
NET STOP "Distributed Link Tracking Client"
NET STOP "DNS Client"
NET STOP "Error Reporting Service"
NET STOP "FireDaemon Service:FAH"
NET STOP "Help and Support"
NET STOP "IPSEC Services"
NET STOP "Messenger"
NET STOP "Network Connections"
NET STOP "Norton AntiVirus Auto Protect Service"
NET STOP "Print Spooler"
NET STOP "Protected Storage"
NET STOP "Remote Access Auto Connection Manager"
NET STOP "Secondary Logon"
NET STOP "Security Accounts Manager"
NET STOP "Server"
NET STOP "Shell Hardware Detection
NET STOP "System Event Notification"
NET STOP "System Restore Service"
NET STOP "Task Scheduler"
NET STOP "Themes"
NET STOP "Upload Manager"
NET STOP "Windows Management Instrumentation"
NET STOP "Windows Time"

After you put all of the services you'd like to stop in the file save it, close the editor and double click on netstop.bat it may take a couple minutes to take down all of these services if the list is rather long.

When you would like to start them back up you can either restart your system or create a netstart.bat and copy your contents from netstop.bat and everywhere that says STOP replace it with START.

A rather easy way to help you gain a bit of extra power ;) For me it's a quick way to shut folding and the AV off so i can hop into a game.

THank you for some good posts that are actually on topic!!

But a word to the wise from the "Old Man", be sure to try out each of those commands BEFORE trying all at once.  You are disabling some important services that MAY not be necessary to your gaming but WILL impact your normal use.

I woul also suggest creating a batch file that restarts all these things.  To do this, create a new batch file much like you did the old, and name it netstart.bat .

Then take the contents in the other file and change the word "stop" to "start", and save it.

Just a suggestion, but you are fooling with some serious parts of the system with that batch file.  Go look up what some of those services do before messing with them on a permanent basis.

I'll use ghost to get me by. But their the ones that set it up this way this os is not meant for gamers or people that upgrade every two to three months.

Ok this is what I did to beat the microsoft's reactivation process

Activate Windows XP from Floppy Diskette Backup
Circumstances arise where you'll need to reinstall Windows XP on your machine when no hardware changes have been made. Rather than go through the reactivation process, create a floppy disk to back up the activation status file. Once XP has been reinstalled the floppy can be used to restore the previous activation status.
Create the Activation Status Floppy Diskette
•   Navigate to %systemroot%\system32 folder.
•   Copy the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files to the floppy diskette.
Reinstall Windows XP
•   Reinstall XP in the normal manner. After the install is completed and the XP Out Of Box Experience (OOBE) appears where you'd normally activate the product, decline to activate and let the installation complete.
Activate the XP Reinstallation
•   Restart the computer and use the F8 key to bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu.
•   Select Minimal Safe Mode using Up and Down Arrow Keys and press Enter.
•   Navigate to %systemroot%\system32 folder.
•   Rename the existing wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files.
•   Using the floppy diskette, copy the previously backed up wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files to the %systemroot%\system32 folder.
•   Reboot the computer.

I took the files from a ghost image that I had.

This is not so much a tweak but a test download Far Cry. http://www.gamershell.com/download_4929.shtml
Now in the settings turn them all the way up, and run at 1280 x 1024. How does it run if at all? I was getting 13 fps on my computer...Time to think about an upgrade so I can run the next S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game.
Fileplanet has a 348 meg trailer. PC gamer said when you play the game bring extra underwear.

PCstats Weekly Tech Tips Secret User Accounts

WindowXP is more friendly than other Operating Systems, but I dislike how it hides certain user accounts from the control panel. Imagine if your PC was hacked simply because of a hidden account you didn't know about, was open to the public.
Of course there are ways to change all the passwords... even the hidden ones. ;-) Load up your command prompt (Start -> Run type "cmd" and then press the ok button) and type in "net user". That will display all user accounts on the PC, even the hidden ones. Expect to see a lot more than you know about! To change the password for any account, type "net user (whatever account name here) *" and press enter. You'll be prompted to input a new password, and then confirm that new password once more... and viola, the password has been changed. You can change the password to any account in the PC, as long as you yourself have administrative access.

This tool will not allow you to remove those hidden accounts, but at least you can change the password so it'll be tougher for people to attack your box.

Just make sure that you don't blow away the passwords on system acct.  It could be a big mess if you do.

Well here's a little trick on how to find out the real web address of the page you're looking at. Simply copy the Javascript code below and paste it into your browsers URL and press enter.

javascript:alert("Actual URL address: " + location.protocol + "//" + location.hostname + "/");

A little gray box should pop up which displays the name of the web server that is currently displayed. Now you can verify the address of any website you browse to see if it really is who it says it is.

What to find out who's hardware is actually hosting a website?  Try this.

1.  Have only one browser window open and find your website.
2.  Open a command prompt.
3.  Type "netstat -o"

You will see what your active connections are, i.e. what server your browsing on.

WindowsXP has a bad habbit of automatically creating hidden drive shares every time you start the system. Even if you disable them one time, they're automatically recreated upon the next reboot, grrr... This leaves any computer running WindowsXP Pro open to attack from anyone with even a bit of networking know how.

Luckily the fix is quite easy, we'll have to load up regedit first (Start -> Run then type regedit and press the ok button) and follow this path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services -> lanmanserver -> Parameters. From there create a new DWORD value and name it AutoShareWks and set its value to 0 then exit Regedit.

From now on when you boot your system, WindowsXP Pro will no longer create automatic shares that leave your system open.

We're looking for new people to join the PCStats Folding@Home team and help us to break into the top 50 teams!

Note mine already had it just had to change the value #
