Changing Outlook security levels
« on: January 29, 2003, 12:30:18 AM »
We recently had a discussion about changing security levels on Outlook and these are the instructions on how to do it.  This is not for someone with a weak heart, and will open your email up to viruses.  You will be editing your registry.  Anyway here goes:

First review all the info on the following web page and then do not deviate from their instructions.  The instructions are accurate.

http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm#ol2002

If you want to take another route, go here;

Hope this helps you as much as it helped me.

Need to add, finding the right links for this was a real pain in the rear.

Someday M$ will realize that what they feel is god security is not a matter of dictating in our software what we want, but rather giving us the options and letting us decide.  Opie and I should not have had to scour the Internet just to find the links to disable an setting that we didn't ask for.

Zoë: Shepard, isn't the Bible kind of specific about killing?
Book: Very specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzy around the area of kneecaps.

ZW is the real hero here.  I just managed to bungel the fix and prove that you have to read the directions carefully.

The registry hack will allow the extensions you specify to be unfiltered by Outlook.
The utility will create the reghack, but also give you an actual interface to pick different extensions instead of having to know them and remember the key.

Worth the trip to the app site if you are having the "I can't see that, it's blocked by Outlook!" problem.

( I did finally get to see the URL you sent Wolfy, all because we installed the app. )
