Interesting video card problem
« on: April 04, 2005, 06:26:58 PM »
Just recently my video card has been giving me some problems.

What is going on is that in order to turn my computer completely on, I have to push down slightly on my moitor to get the system to do anything after pushing the on button.

If I don't do that, all that will happen is my computer will sit there with a blank screen and the fans making a loud noise.

I pretty much figured that this started because I had my computer  pushed too close to the wall causing it to do that.

Does anybody have a solution to fix the problem?

Besides buying a new one or sending it into ATI and pay them to fix it while waiting a few months to get it back.

First if you turn on your computer and let it set there does it POST (Make The POST beep, giving the all clear)?
No matter how hard you try to push the envelope, remember it's only stationary.

Ya know, with all the problems you are having, and with the current problem you are descripbing, I am lead to believe that you are having a graounding problem with your mobo or PS.

Check that there isn't a screw underneath the mobo, or something pushing the board.

Book: Very specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzy around the area of kneecaps.

Well, I am going to wait till my new mobo gets here (which should be Weds.) before I really do anything.

If not you might just need to scrap that X800 and get a real video card:D J/K
But NVidia might be a better choice:D

Yea, my next purchase will be a NVidia.

But for now I have no money to spent on another video card.

And just as long as it holds out, I won't probably get a new one for about 2 years.
