Well I got my athlon 64 3000+ in today. I ran a set of benchmarks on my old system before the upgrade to see just how much faster my new system is.

Old system
AMD Athlon XP 2600 333mhz fsb
abit nf7-s 1.1
256mb X2 corsair ddr400 (running at ddr333).
ati radeon 9800XT

New system
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
CHAINTECH ZNF3-150 ZENITH
256mb X2 corsair ddr400 .
ati radeon 9800XT

The old system hit 6066 in 3dmark03

my new system hit 6438 in 3dmark03

now to tweak :evil

I would but I can't get a stable system. I'm trying a few tricks to see if I can't get it working but for now it's no good for games :cry:

If I can't fix it I'll be playing on my old system.

Several things.

1# When 2 or more programs are open sometime they lock for a few moments

2# Random reboots (no real error given. Just says something violated windows integrity so windows was rebooted to prevent data lose

good one)

Plus the system just felt a little slow at times.

All that said I may have worked out a few of the bugs. I have been working with the system now for 3 hours with no problems. I updated all the drivers and I boosted the ram voltage by .1 volt. That seems to have fixed things for now. We will see though as I have the next 2 days off. I'm holding final judgment till I get bf1942 installed.

BTW
I ran windows memory testing program (oddly a dos program, not windows at all) and it found no problems with my ram before or after the voltage increase. Oddly though boosting the ram voltage seems to have been the thing that fixed it.

nothing like the bleeding edge of technology.

Well another problem with the athlon 64 system.

Battlefield 1942 is unplayable. The game seems to be in hyper mode. Everything is running faster than it should be. The sound is the first thing that is noticed. Sounds a bit like playing 33rpm record at 45 rpm (for those who remember records).:8o:

Also the mapvote screen pops up and can't be removed. Any ideas?

fixed everything but the sound problem. All I had to do was reinstall the patch. I'll have to pick up a cheap soundblaster and see if that fixes things.

Ok I'v hit the max overclock I can and remain stable. I got the cpu up to 2.2GHz. After running 3dmark03 I got a score of 6537. Next to overclock the videocard.

i was at the lan party last friday and saturday, had a bit of trouble with my a64 3.0, but got it goin in about 25 minutes with a fresh install of xp sp2 and drivers.

i hit 10600 on 3dmark03, or somewhere around that, but i have a geforce6800gt...

anyone remember boogieman, yeah thats me. and the benchmarks were posted on the //webserver

I got a 10900 with my P42.6 @ 2.8
BFG 6800 gt was not o/c over factory settings
this was not a freash os but the m/b and H/D were. MSI 865 chip set. This is the third msi m/b. I've had two go bad and think the other one took out my 120 gig H/D. Hmmm I wounder why their getting sewed.

Prices are getting much more reasonable. I am thinking of making a major leap in the next upgrade. We'll see what the budget is like.

Tuesday, Dec 21, 2004: The day started with no issues. Both systems were running perfectly and did not report and errors. However, it did not last very long. At 11:31 am, the Intel system failed again and turned itself off.

After comprehensive analysis of all components we identified the source of the problem. The Tagan-built power supply TG480-U22 delivered a standby voltage of 5V, however could not be turned on again. Our test engineers suspected the Tagan device to be the problem already the day before, since the system demonstrated similar behavior then. Our power supply test station finally cleared any doubts and confirmed this device to be the problem's origin. The failed component from Tagan will stay in THG's test lab in Munich until the end of the test and can be reviewed by the manufacturer.

Tagan's weaknesses are not new to us. A total of five power supplies suddenly failed in our labs during the past year. A newly designed and rubberized casing is unlikely to improve the reliability of the devices.

We substituted the TG480-U22 with an Antec NEO480. The system has been running again since 12:12 pm EST.

Tom has updated the report does't look as bad for Intel .
