DOOM FREAKING THREE = GOLD

I finished the game almost two weeks ago. Overall, pretty mediocre. The level design was so-so and really linear and after a while it just wasn't scary and after a while I knew exactly what would happen in a room, and more often than not, I was right. The games graphics are AMAZING and really the only reason to play the game in my opinion. id went out to create their best single player experience, and I'd say they accomplished it, but after playing games like Half-Life or even Far Cry, the design aspect of the game just isn't that great.  PLUS EVERYTHING LOOKED EXACTLY THE SAME HOLY CRAP. PIPES, PIPES, METAL GRATINGS, MORE PIPES. Freakin' terrible near the end (20+ hour game, got very, very, very repetitive near the end).

Sound effects are weak overall. Shotgun is way over powered. I never felt scared when I had my shotgun equipped.

Multiplayer isn't too bad, I've spent a lot of time with it, it's a little half-assed(but id wasn't focusing on multiplayer), but still nothing too terrible. Just turn off all the graphics settings to get the advantage in multiplayer.

I give it a 7.5/10.

Be interested in what others have to say about it.

Anyone else?

Zoƫ: Shepard, isn't the Bible kind of specific about killing?
Book: Very specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzy around the area of kneecaps.

well, i beat it last night and found the whole game really well done.  I didn't see the repetitive gameplay sam's screamin except for the excess of imps...but i didn't mind it that too much. After fighting imps for so long, i learned to kill them instantly with a single shotgun blast to the chest and head. The scripted sequences and bosses were cool and fairly original.  The game's artwork was really original too considering its a remake the of everything in the original doom.  The game can make you jump alot if you arent paying attention.  The beginning 5 levels are the best in the game IMO because of their scare factor.  They had some funny easter eggs too....( the orange pentagram thingymabob behind the hell knight in the picture that comes up when the game is loading has the original doom guy's head in it)

the one thing i really hated though was the "gibbing" of the zombies, when you shoot them multiple time, their flesh disintegrates and you are left with a skeleton...no actual gibs ( cept a brain)...and the bodies dissapear really fast...the imps and every other creature, including bosses, burn up and disappear instantly....i like messing around with the physics and the floppy dead bodies, but i couldn't here :;(:

theres an expansion pack apparently coming out,  so i cant wait for that

well, thats my opinion on some things....

overall it was funstastic 8.8 out of 10

Alright I have finally finshed the game. It took me about 33-35 game hours as I was not only playing but looking at every thing for just about anything.

First of all I love the game, it had to be the best single player game I have played in a long time. I had only a few complaints about it, one being that no matter what i did I could not get the sound to stop jumping. But and the same time I couldn't beleive the graphics even at the lowest setting the Gfx where insane! There whre a few bugs in the game that were both cute and annoying like not being able to load certain sounds fx.

I loved to sounds. the ambient fx at time it was very hair raising. I loved some of scripted sequence that happend.

Like I said before the Graphics were insane. The textures were great. there were other things like see the heat distorsion above fire and when things exploded.

I was satisfied with the amount of level that needed to be completed. The endng was alright. I think the there could've been some more to the ending sequence but it worked.

Multi-player Sucked all out. I know that wasn't the focus but I just tought it was horrible. the original Doom and Doom2 was better.

The gaming engine is awsome it is just as if not a little more flexible then UT engine.
I has support for all sorts of vehicles air and ground alike, from melee to guided weapons.

Some of the easter eggs were great
Foe example if you picked up a keycard the used the "pick-up" sound fx for doom/2. There is a tablet in the game with a picture of the original box cover, slightly modified, The magizes every where with a picture of the original Doom guys face. and many many more.

I give it an overall 9/10

While I respect your opinions, there are things I must disagree on.

Firstly RazorWynd- the scripted sequences stop ped being original after the 5th or 6th time they did it...in a row. Note: The spawning of enemies behind you.

You always knew what was gonna happen- enter room, imps spawn in either A) Behind you      B)Up another level C) Right in front of you

Cue said spawns as soon as you either A) Find a new PDA B)Find a secret area or C) Touch a switch.

EVERY TIME.

JollyRoger- Ok, you said 'best single player game you've ever played' yet the entire post was devoted to the game engine.

I'm not saying the game was bad...I just think that maybe if it didn't take 4 years to make its design wouldn't be so flawed. The game simply came out too late and couldn't compete with newer games that are using newer designs.

I understand single-player  was Doom 3's main focus, and id did focus on it....but it just got stale. I came into the game expecting nothing except lots of demon killing. And id delivered completely on that part. Was that fun back in 1994? Yes. Today? Yes, very much so, but not 20+ hours worth. I played the game exactly how it should have been played- Dolby 5.1, great video card, at night, alone, in the dark.

I don't know where I'm going with this. End transmission.

Sorry, I had to cut the last post. My Boss came in and she was having a "MOOD". So I had to Post and bail.

To finish what I was saying, Pink:P!
and I didn't say  "ever" I said "In a long time":D

The actual Game play was kind of nerve wracking. From the point that my system was trying to digest the game and was having a hard time.

I wouldn't exactly say that the monster spawn was all that predictalbe. Yes you had two or three choices but just about any game your enemy will be infront or behind or above. there where alot of Imps but, I'd have to say the were justa as many zombies too. and the spiders though easy were a major annoyance of mine.

The use of gun or flash light made the game intresting. although now you can jump on-line and get a mode that puts a flashlight on each weapon. The Only annoyance here is, you have your flash light out and an Imp jumps you. first responce is to click the mouse button, and now you just beat the Imp with a flashlight. great! You fumble trying to run and hit "f" to draw your weapon.  :rolleyes:The shotgun was my favorite weapon in close  quarters, followed by the chaingun for medium distance, and rocket for the long distance reach out and blast someone. The BFG9000 was cool twards the end and helped out at time but its rate of fire was just too slow and ammo was too scarce for it.

I like tele-porting and how it looked, and how you needed to actually use the interface to turn it on and pick a destination. I also liked how you need to acually use the computer interfaces to manipulate different thing through the game. like removing the toxic canisters.
you acually had to control the claw to pick up the canisters, not just push a button and the game does the rest.

I didn't like the limited amount of O2 you had when you went outside it made it rather annoying it seemed like I spent more time trying to find extra O2 tanks and not fining the door back in.

hey, i wasn't refering to monster spawning when i said "scripted sequences"....

i ment the imps crawling on windows...imps tearing through a metal door...the pinky bashing in the door....fat zombie bashing head on holding cell door....that type of scripted sequences

the spawning thing wasn't cool, i would have rathered the monsters not spawn and just come out of the shadows, ventilation, janitorial closet....or something

well no crap, you can blow 10 guys up with it instantly...they arent gonna make it that easy

plus it was a prototype, so ammo would naturally be scarce

hey i thought that was cool, makes the game a bit more immersive...

the whole PDA idea was well done...it moved the story along nicely
