USAF in secret garage door jamming trials

The USAF has successfully deployed a two-way radio garage door jamming system at its Eglin Air Force base in Florida, according to the state's news-journalonline.

The $5.5m Motorola system is apparently keeping garage doors firmly shut in the surrounding Niceville, Valparaiso and Crestview communities. Although technicians have said they will try and address the issue by running the system at "slightly different frequencies from those used by garage door openers to try to eliminate or reduce the interference when another test is conducted Friday through Monday", the Air Force is unrepentant and insists it is in compliance with its licence.

Federal Communication Commission spokeswoman Lauren Van Wazer confirmed that "if the Air Force is running the system within its licensed frequencies, users of garage door openers may have to change theirs".

Alternatively, we suggest that they could exit their vehicles, walk six feet and operate the garage doors manually.

I used to live in Hickory Hill which is in Papillion , right along Offutt Air Force bacse's Flight path for landing. back in '87-'92 we had problems when planes flew over. Our Garage doors would not open, and now they want to do this on purpose, I know it is supposed to be for the base but come on. and 5.5million dollars to do this, please I could do it for a lot cheaper.:D

The Air Force contractor is changing their operating frequency for that comm system.  Don't know why they would ever want to use such a short range and unreliable frequency set though.

I have an idea.
If they want a reliable way
to keep the garge door for opening
for secuity reasons, Cut power to the openers.

I think that it's funny that they expect hundreds upon hundreds of homeowners to change the freqs on their openers vs the one project changing it's freq.

:lol
