Want to add an lcd to your case?
« on: March 13, 2004, 02:01:40 AM »
InterAct makes snap on lcd's for all the popular game systems. Nice thing is most(if not all) of them run off 12v. Thats nice because we can use the pc's power supply to power the lcd. They can be had for around $80 which is dirt cheep for a 5" tft lcd. I'm getting one but sadly it will not be done for the party.

btw here is the gamecube version (which is the one I'm getting

When do you think it may be ready to show off?

A week or two after the party. I'll post photos.

Right now I'm looking at two ways of doing it.

#1. the easy way
#2. the hard way

The easy way is just to cut a hole and mount the lcd ( )

The other is the one I want to do and have the lcd pop out of the case(from a drive bay) then flip up (all automatic). I bet you have seen car lcd systems like this. Right now I'm looking at an old 2x cd-rom for parts. Just tryig to think of a way to stealth the thing.

this is something like it will look like(his you have to pull out though)

OK I bought the monitor.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3084686696

Don't care about the scuffs as the case is gone anyway. All I want is the LCD and any support circuitry. Can't wait to start the mod.

To be safe I'll work with a bit of plastic the size of the LCD and when I get a working mod I'll glue the LCD to it. Better get my Dremel warmed up

That sounds sweet, the Car display version. If it works real good you might have to post a video of it in operation along with some pics

Very nice idea having that as a secondary monitor.  Even better if you can get it to open and extend at the push of the button.

I actually thought of doing that. I have an old army surplus case that can fit a full desktop computer and an lcd. Although who would want a 3ft X 2ft X1.5ft laptop. If I used a 12v leadacid battery I could even  make it portable.

I am accually working on something like that. calling it a portable server. I am fabbing a CDRom that has a pop open top, the 3.5" Floppy will sit so the top is flush with the surface of the keybord/trackball mouse space, and you just tuch it and it tilts 20 degrees to insert disks it will have 3 Ethernet controllers and a built in 17" flat pannel screen i'll try to post pics of the mock up

Yeah bro, definately. I'm stoked for the LAN party. Sorry I don't post much, I'm more of a troll than anything. My addiction to Star Wars Galaxies doesn't help any. (grinding Jedi=SO TIME CONSUMING)

You bringing the tub? ;)

The cable is run, so we will have Internet connectivity as well.

I should have a full LEGAL copy of UT2K4 tonight, so IF I can figure out the UTTV I might get that running.

Well my lcd mod will be delayed by another week or two. The display I bought was dead  . Because I took it apart I can't return it so now I'm stuck with a $50 paperweight. Next time I'm buying new (so their goes ~$110).

The display I'm buying next will be ~the same size so I can start the mod with this one then replace it later with a good lcd.

I wish the seller was local :ak47: :evil
