I am still in the market for a new card, which is worth the coin and why?

The best bang for your buck is the Gforce3 Ti 500.  Here is a great articale if you have the time to read it.

Gforce 3 Review

If you want the Best of the Best then go for the Gforce4 4600.

Here is 30 cards benchmarked at Toms Hardware under VGA Charts.

Hats off to Tom's Hardware for his great reviews. :drummer:

ok i saw a revew over the GF4 and the ATI 8500 and yes the GF4 kicked the ATI in the butt. BUT, the difrences are NOT worth the extra bucks. especially when you cant spend a truckload of the mula

But, thats just my opinion, I could be wrong:)

I had an ATI Radeon (first generation)  card for a long while and I had people say that the colors are displayed differently then Nvidia Cards... It ran FANTASTIC!

I now have a Geforce2 Pro 64mb card and it runs great..

My first choice would be The Geforce Ti 4600..The price is a bit much ...BUT the performance does beat out any card ...bar none.   My second choice, would be either the ATI 8500 or Geforce3 Ti 500.

Here's a thought, what is the performance difference between the Geforce3 TI 500 and the Geforce4 MX 440?

GF 4 TI 4600..............................$307
GF 4 TI 4400..............................$228
GF 4 TI 4200 128MB................$185
GF 4 TI 4200 64mb..................$165 (not listed on Tom's so don't know how is stacks up)
GF 3 TI 500................................$151
ATI R8500 64MB (not LE).......$135
ATI R8500 LE 128MB..............$135
GeForce 3.................................$129

All of these are in the top of the list according to Tom's hardware.  The GF 4 MX isn't worth the money.  If you plan on lots of JKII than get a card with 128MB it's very video memory intensive as you can see on Tom's site.  Otherwise find the price you want and choose a card, I don't think you will be very disappointed with any of the above.  Of course once you determine the chipset/version, you have to look at brands and features.

First Pick:
For performance vs price I would probably go with the GF 4 TI 4200 128MB it ranks 3rd in all of Tom's tests and is under $200.  With the technology that NVidia has developed once games start to use it, I don't know if the ATI cards will keep up.

Second Pick:
To save $30 GF 3 TI 500 at $151 it performs well and is ranked 4,4,6, and 5.

Third Pick:
If the $151 is too much I think I would go with the ATI R8500 64MB (not LE) at $135 it's less than I spent on my first graphics card (ATI Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO $150 a year ago).

If $135 is too much, either live with what you have or get integrated graphics on your MB and save money until you can get a new graphics card.

Actually, these days, OEM merely means that you don't get all the software, and no fancy box either.  Save $50 for not taking the box, or the cheesy games? OK!

The Abit one I got only came with the drivers cd and adaptor cables for all the different outputs.

I just love dual monitors on a windows box.

I am the envy of my team at work, as I run a 21" monitor and a 17" monitor on my workstation.  You have no idea how small a 17" monitor is until you set a 21" monitor next to it!  As we speak, I am typing this on one monitor while watching an install on a server on the other monitor.

Too easy, too fun!

I am seriously considering it for home, IF I can find the room on the desk.

I'll wait until Tom reviews it, if ya know what I mean.  It's all hype until it's been tested.

Nvidia has new Detanator drivers out.  It seems to have drastically improved the color somehow.

Too bad it's so pricy!  I would love the 3 monitor bit.

Of course the lack of spped in some games would mean that I wouldn't enjoy the framerates!

That review of the new Matrox card was BIG BUMMER to me.  I have heard some good things about it...but after seeing that review....i think the Ti4600 puts it in the dirt...
