Gagging on Windows

As its practically being shoved down Scott McCausland's throat. Interesting article about being forced to use windows. He did break the law and it is apart of his probation to have his computer activities monitored. However, this is asinine. forced Windows

I am torn here.  He did a crime and part of his punishment is that he has to be monitored. No problem there, even he agrees with those terms.  However, it seems to me that the feds are a bit overboard with the "You have to reload using Windows." approach. 
I wonder... what percentage of the hackers/crackers out there are using *nix?  Something tells me that the numbers are higher than 15%.  So why, oh why, would they choose a product, or develop a product if that is the case, which is so platform specific?

You would think that if they are going to monitor him and others like him, that the developers would have released a non platform standard, or at least a *nix version.  My guess is, from experience is that some type of *nix  is going to be the preferred choice of Hackers/Crackers/ Pirates.

 I have not know one who does his business on a Windows machine...Well, he might just do his business on a Windows machine. However, when it comes down to the hacks/cracks/pirating, unless they're wannabes or newbies, they are work from a *nix platform . 

After 20+ years you'd think that the feds would have realized this and come up with something. It just doesn't make sense to me.

You have to remember that the judicial system isn't the one that actually understands the technology.  they just sentence you and push you through the system.  Law Enforcement has some idea of the difference, but they really aren't involved in the penalty portion.

Well Yeah, However it pains me to see the lack of education in the justice system.

I am painfully familiar with that lack of education in the judicial system.  If only the courts better understood technology, my past experiences would be much happier.
