Hmm, could it be that Intel has seen the light and will go with cheaper prices and higher performance?  Will they finally regain and retain the crown they lost when they got greedy?

Only time will tell.

AMD will not come out with their 65nm chip until Q2 2007. I didn't want to wait that long before I upgrade. ::pc-smash::

IT LOOKS LIKE AMD is going to pull in the AM2 launch by about two weeks to try and out-game Intel.
According to HKEPC, it pulled in the launch to May 23 instead of June 6 because they think Intel will paper launch its next cores on the same day.

Now, a launch in front of not the world's assembled IT press would be a coup for, ummm, not sure, but I guarantee far fewer people will care or cover it if it is not at Computex. Either way, it is launching very soon. µ

ROAD MAPS SPOTTED papering the walls of the Porcupine Pub in Leicester Square today show how Intel will price the Conroe family at its launch in the third quarter of this year.
The E6700, which is a 2.67GHz chip with 4MB of cache and a 1066 front side bus will cost $529 while the E6600, a 2.40GHz version will cost $315. The other two members of the Intel Cointreau family have 2MB of cache apiece, with the E6400 (2.13GHz) costing $240, while the E6300 (1.86GHz) will cost $210.

On the 30th of April, Intel will introduce the 800MHz bus 960 chip, priced at $531. The next slated price cuts are on the 23rd of April, with the 950, the 940, the 930 and the 920 all dropping in price. The price for these old warrior will fall further when the Conroe processors make their debut on the world's stage.

Expect heavy discounting on the 6XX family as Intel says hello to the new lamps and goodbye to the old.

There are also price cuts coming on the good old Celeron as Intel readies 65 nanometre chips the 356 (3.33GHz) and the 352 (3.2GHz) at the end of May. These 533MHz bus chips have 512K of cache and will cost $90 and $80 respectively. There are price cuts on the existing Celerons this week. µ

here is something else I'd like to point out. being that this chip is still unrealeased there is no garentee that is will be a $529 chip. That like to say that now, but they may bump the price. Thats what happened with blu-ray, they said that a Blu-Ray drive would be as little as $300 and a blu-ray player for you tv was only supposed to be $199. Now a Blu-Ray player is about $899. and i haven't heard a thing about the drives for computers. So just a little 2¢, the price may change. it seems toalways change for the worse when the product is released.

This price list came out today form Intel. CPU hit the street in 4-30-o6 I don't think the prices will go up. Even if the price would double it would be cheaper than the AM2 62 CPU.

I find it humorous that we ask for specs and we get URL's that are not from Intel's website. ROFLOL :rolling:rolling:rolling

Perhaps Intel doesn't even have the new Chip and this is all a hoax!  :)

Tuesday June 06, 2006Intel Core 2 Duo Vs AMD Athlon FX
Today Intel flexed a bit more muscle in relation to the Core 2 Duo gaming advantages that they have been promising. Senior Intel VP, Anand Chandrasekher, ran an industry standard DOOM 3 timedemo benchmark comparing AMD’s Athlon FX and Intel’s upcoming Core 2 Duo. What is extremely interesting about this set of gaming benchmarks is that Intel not only compared them on “identical” platforms, but also at identical clock speeds. Both the AMD FX and Intel processors were clocked at 2.6GHz. The AMD machine scored 138 frames per second while the Intel Core 3 Duo machine returned a whopping 177 frames per second. A full 39 fps better comes out to over a 25% increase in gaming performance clock per clock.

Intel went on to discuss more about gaming benchmarks but did not supply any more direct AMD comparisons. However a healthy group of benchmarks from some very popular shooters were shown using their current flagship Pentium for base performance.

As you can see, comparing a 2.93GHz Core 2 Duo against a 3.73 Pentium gives some beautiful 50% performance increase comparisons. Core 2 Duo looks to be shaping up to be a gamer’s dream.

Intel officially introduced the Intel® P965 Express Chipset, formerly code-named "Broadwater," and said future versions, including one with graphics built in, will ship over the next two months. Combined, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor and Intel P965 Express Chipset will enable breakthrough PC performance, greater power efficiency, quieter systems and theatre-like sound quality, among other benefits.

To significantly increase PC performance, the chipset incorporates Intel® Fast Memory Access, an updated Memory Controller Hub backbone architecture that optimizes the system's memory bandwidth. It also supports DDR2 or double-data rate computer memory with data transfer speeds up to 800 MHz, enabling speedy access to files and a highly responsive PC. Chandrasekher also discussed a future integrated graphics chipset, called the G965 Express Chipset. This product will include a new feature called Intel® Clear Video Technology, which enhances high-definition video playback including those from personal video recorders and digital camcorders for sharper image viewing quality. All of the 965 Express chipsets enable users to add a second external drive to a PC for extra data protection, Intel® High Definition Audio for theater-like sound quality and Intel® Quiet System Technology to reduce system noise and heat for a much quieter, yet higher-performing PC.

These chipsets will form the basis of systems supporting the Intel® Viiv™ Technology and Intel vPRO™ Technology platforms that will be increasingly powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processors. Chandrasekher also disclosed that Intel will introduce the Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme processor at speeds of 2.93 Megahertz in July, and a faster 3.2 megahertz version later in the year.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it Mr. Anderson

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/914/13/page_13_final_thoughts/index.html

From our benchmarking, we can see that Intel’s upcoming range of Conroe processors have a lot of raw performance available. Even the X6800 Core 2 Extreme which is clocked at just 2.93GHz is able to kill the 955 Extreme Edition processor pretty much all of the time. Considering the 955 EE is clocked over half a gig higher than the X6800, it is painting a very good picture for Intel. As Intel ramp up the clock speeds of the new Conroe chips, performance will only become stronger.

Not once did AMD’s current highest performing and most expensive FX-62 processor come close to beating the Conroe. At times, the X6800 was over 50% faster. The 955 EE was able to beat the X6800 once in Quake 4 but that is because the 955 EE has a much higher clock speed. And even in Quake 4, the 955 EE was only about 3% quicker – imagine when the Core 2 Extreme hits 3.46GHz and you’ll have a processor which will destroy the old Intel CPU design.

Intel’s Conroe design makes their older Pentium chips look very, very ordinary. At times, the X6800 is able to beat the Pentium 4 631 clocked at 3GHz by as much as 180%. As far as gaming performance goes, Intel is looking very strong and as we have predicated and told many people at the Computex show throughout the week, Intel is looking like they will be the gamer CPU of choice in H2 2006 and all of 2007. The Core 2 Extreme clocked at 2.93GHz was able to beat the AMD Athlon FX-62 on average by 15% in our gaming benchmarks.

Right now is a good time to be in the industry, especially as an enthusiast and gamer. Intel are fighting back against AMD after some years of tough times as AMD become stronger and stronger and grew their market share against Intel. Now things are looking very good for Intel – they have the fastest desktop PC processor in the world just waiting to let it loose and a great chipset platform in the Intel 965P and nVidia nForce 5 series with ATI lurking around in the background with their RD600 chipset which should be launched around September 2006, apparently the same time as Intel will release their new Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors into the market.

Sounds like you boys need a friendly little war between an Intel box and a AMD box. :P  Sounds to me  like a lan party is in order....:hubba: Load the guns and start shooting :mg-rt: Just remember when the dust settles we all will benifit from the war between the two manufactures.  Faster chips, more processing, lower prices.  Works for me!

A side note is If I should ever convert to the P chip I would still put an AMD sticker on the front so no one would know. :rolling

The intent is to keep peps updated who do.
And yes it is good for pice cuts, AMD has had to cut some of their CPU's as much as 45% to compete with a better product. But for 30 more bucks I'll buy the faster chip.
