BTW, even though the Western Digital's are "only" ata100, the special edition one's (8 mb cache) bench better than the Maxtor drives.

I have 2 80gb WD special edition drives (i've installed 1 other) and a Maxtor 60gb ata133 2mb cache.  I haven't had trouble with any of them.

At this point I will only buy the WD special edition drives, their prices are very competitive, and their performance is excellent!
